Documents & correspondence 18th & 19th Century, concerning the Rev. Robert Henry Goodacre, one-time chaplain at Stafford Prison, and his family, together with the Vickers, Litchfield and other families of Mansfield; including letters to Goodacre at Stafford Gaol, a 16pp sermon delivered at Leek Union Workhouse during an outbreak of cholera, a photograph of Goodacre by Lafayette, Legal Documents (12) from 1770s to 1890s, several issued by the Mansfield Court Leet concerning surrenders of land and agreements notably concerning a large stone quarry, Goodacre's brother's Last Will & Testament (he died intestate), sundry billheads, etc. Includes an extraordinary letter from his great grandfather to a prisoner on death row threatening harm to the executioner. Goodacre made contributions to the Chaplain's Journal which brought him into conflict with the governing authorities at Stafford Prison. (44 items).
